Baby Alpaca is the name given to the first year of the Alpaca shearing, at its finest. Baby Alpaca is silky soft, and non irritating. Its fiber shafts which are hollow which provide outstanding thermal properties and superbly light in weight. Baby Alpaca should not be confused with the normal Alpaca which can encompass older coarser haired Alpacas animals. Baby Alpaca is truly a luxury fiber which is not freely available outside of the Andean Countries of South America.

The Alpaca, like the llama was domesticated and farmed by the Andean Indians using breeding and husbandry methods handed down through the ages. The Alpaca is not suited to carry loads as its Vicuna and Guanaco cousins. Alpaca are found in a wide spectrum of earth colors, the most common being white but ranging through shades of grays, blacks and browns.
