Vargas Llosa: Nobel Prize for Literature, 2010.
Vargas LLosa, originally from Arequipa, Peru is currently teaching a semester in Princeton and the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in Literature. Vicuna garments in China
Pablo Zegna, CEO of Zegna Group, said Chinese consumers are the best buyers of Peruvian vicuña wool garments, reported Andina.
According to the executive of the men's luxury clothing company Ermenegildo Zegna, Chinese buyers are willing to pay up to US$ 20,000 for vicuña wool garments.
“The garments made with Peruvian vicuña wool are highly demanded in the best markets of the world, even China pays more than the United States for these products,” he stated.
Zegna explained that Peruvian vicuña wool is highly sought-after in the international market since it is considered a rare or exotic product.
“In the United States, a blanket made from vicuña wool may cost US$ 8,000, a jacket US$ 15,000, and coats can cost US$ 18,000,” he detailed.
Ermenegildo Zegna was established in 1910 in the Milan, Italy and currently has more than 525 stores around the world.
Zegna met with President Alan García to assess the project carried out by Ermenegildo Zegna Group in the community of Picotani, Puno, where they buy some of the vicuña wool.

Peru : A Splendid History of Textiles
Peru has a rich history of textiles: From Wool, Tweed, Feathers, Spidery Thin Yarns, Embroidery and many more exquisite Pre-Inca to Post-Inca superb samples.
One of my favorite places to see Chancay textiles is at the Museo Amano in Miraflores, Lima.
A wonderful small museum with exquisite pieces.

Vicuna es la fibra natural mas fina, suave y exclusiva que existe en el mundo. Es considerada mas fina y ligera que el Cashmere o Angora. La Vicuna es un animal elegante que vive a 5,000 metros /15,000 pies sobre el nivel del mar en las Alturas de los Andes de Sud America. La cultura ancestral de los Incas, consideraba a la Vicuna un animal sagrado. El Chaccu es una Ceremonia tradicional heredadad de los Incas en la cual cada cuatro anos el lider Inca la ordenaba . Se rodeaba a las Vicunas para ser esquiladas y luego liberadas sin ningun mal trato.
Solo la nobleza Inca hizo uso de tan exclusiva y fina fibra. Hoy dia la tradicion del Chaccu continua en las Comunidades Andinas bajo un monitoreo estricto y siguiendo las reglas de la “Convencion del Comercio Internacional de Especies en peligro de extincion”(CITES).
La poblacion de la Vicuna ha aumentado a mas de 160,000 animales que viven protegidos en Reservas Nacionales.
